Kickball 2007 is over and we have our new champion---

Congratulations to Walk-On's and it's kickballers. They had to fight their way back from the loser's bracket to win but they did just that by beating the Tsunami Army in the final two games of double elimination. And kudos to the kickballers at Tsunami for making it to the final game again for the 3rd time in 3 years. They are truly kickball fiends.

July 31st, 2007

Well Day 1 is done and there are 15 teams left: Avoyelles, Chimes, Fred's, Galatoire's. Happy's/Roux House, Hooters-Seigen, J.L.'s Place, Ninfa's, O'Charley's, Sullivan's, Tsunami, Uncle Earl's, Varsity, Vic's Chophouse, and Walk-On's and 13 are out: Bonefish Grill, Brightside, Budweiser, Bud Girls, Capitol City Grill, Champp's, Chimes East, Chimes Street, Juban's, On the Border, Outback (Gonzales), P.F. Chang's, T.J. Rib's.

We're going to start the 1st set of games on Day 2 at 11am and those games are as follows:

Fred's vs Chimes

Galatoire's vs Ninfa's

Hooter's vs O'Charley's

Walk-On's vs Avoyelles

Varsity vs Happys/Roux House

So that means these teams need to get to the fields, at the latest, at 10:30am to get a new set of wristbands and get to kickballing (if any of you grungy bastards still have on your Day 1 wristband, well then...yuck). As for the 2nd set of games, the following teams will need to be there for 11am: Uncle Earl's, Vic's Chophouse, J.L.'s Place, Tsunami, and Sullivan's.

These start times are crucial in order for all of us to gather around the tv together at 7pm and to watch 1st SAINTS Game in what seems like years. So the plan is to have all the games end by 5pm, 6pm at the very latest. Rain may still be a factor by then and we need to have a rain delay buffer, so DON'T BE LATE.

Alright enough of that, now for the fun stuff. This Thursday, August 2nd, is the 1st Kickballers' Old Skool Retro Party at the Varsity. So if you still got your P.E. uniform, wear it. If your got your jive walk, strut it. If you got your fro on, feel it. Come get on board the Soul Train and let your sequins shine. Feel the Fro.

BONUS: Our beautiful friends from Voodoo BBQ are hooking us up with some free food (let's say around 10pm). If you haven't heard of them or just haven't tried them out yet, you really should (yes, they have alcohol. see our happy hour list). Us monkeys are addicted to the corn pudding. If you want some bbq that's made with love, go to Voodoo (on Drusilla, next to Keys Graphics, across from McDonald's). Check out the menu at www.voodoobbqandgrill.com. By the way, that cute redhead on the home page is the one that hooked us kickballers up. So if you see her, say "thank you".

We hope to see alot of you at the Varsity on Thursday. Also don't forget the awards party on Sunday after the Saints game(actually probably around the 4th quarter). Here are some of the awards we're hoping to give out this year: "most average team", "littlest monkey", "the drunkest monkey", "I bought this shirt at Gap Kids", "might as well be naked", and the coveted "least sober team". Keep an eye out for any nominees. And of course we will introduce the 2007 Service Industry Kickball Champion.

Any questions, let us know

If 2 days a year isn't enough to quench your kickball fix, then don't forget that Baton Rouge has it's very own kickball league, RSAK (Red Stick Area Kickball, "Now with Blue Balls"). You can get info on their website, www.brkickball.com

GONE KICKBALLIN'

July 27th, 2007

Kickballers unite! We at MonkeyBR need all you kickballers to do whatever anti-rain dances, good mojo mantras, or just yell at the sky and make those rain clouds to GO AWAY! Hopefully that will work, if not then on the good side it will be much, much cooler. So bring your towels, dry clothes, silly umbrella hats to stay fresh in what seems to be the longest forecast of rain man has ever seen.

Here's the plan: We have left a little breathing room the bracket schedule for overtime games and rain and since it looks like we are going to experience the rain, we have to make sure all games get started as quickly as possible. During any rain delays, we'll just party in Walk-On's and have what may be the 2nd largest gathering of service industry workers Baton Rouge has ever seen (2nd to Mockler's Bartenders Ball). Also if it just a light rain, unlike today and without any thunder or lightning, teams can opt to still play what we've now deemed, WETBALL. We had left alot of extra time on Day 2 so we can make up any lost rounds then, but we would have to start a little earlier than planned. After all, we've got to be done before the SAINTS game starts. Go Saints!

So wear your feathered hats, cast your voodoo, or just cross your fingers.

On another note: remember, because of the limited space we have (4 fields), the tourney is not a true double elimination but each will have the chance to play at least 2 games this year. No more one and done. That sucked. So to win it all and claimed the mysterious grab bag of prizes, your team must go undefeated or if ya'll lose your 1st game, then win your remaining games in the losers bracket. If you lose after the 1st round, then your consolation prize is to eat and drink in the shade and AC and point and laugh at everyone else. Hopefully next year we can find an eccentric millionaire who has lots of land and what's to put up with hundreds of the service industry, but for now, we must make do.

One last note for today: Our awesome (and crazy) friends at RSAK (Red Stick Area Kickball) are back again to referee the games to give a little professionalism to the tournament. Remember these guys know more about kickball than you ever did so what they say goes. The monkeys are biased and they will side the referees (they know more then we do too). So don't give them a hard time. Remember, IT'S ONLY KICKBALL. (plus they're bringing blue balls!) (Team NINJA of RSAK is currently looking for new players for the league team, so if your interested contact them at scott@brkickball.com).

July 25th, 2007

Okay, Kickballers or Kickballer wannabes, it's the home stretch, the last count, the final countdown. The 3rd annual MonkeyBR Service Industry Kickball Tournament is upon us and you and yours may be too late and this is why: Brightside, Ninfa's, Vic's Chophouse x 2, Outback, O'Charley's, Parrain's, Digiulios, Texas Roadhouse, Roux House/Happy's, Mockler, Budweiser, Varsity x 2, Chimes, Hooters-College, Hooters-Seigen, Avoyelles, Tsunami, Bonefish, P.F. Chang's, On the Border, Sullivan's, Chimes St. are in with Rotolo's, Mellow Mushroom, Fred's, D'Agostino's, Walk-on's, Chili's, Capitol City Grill, Boudreaux & Thibodeaux's, Carrabba's, Gino's in the wings.

If you do the math, that equals 34 teams and we only have spots for 32 teams. So the last teams in will just have to sit in the shade and AC, next to the beer and food in Walk-on's and watch everybody else make asses of themselves (not a bad trade off). Don't worry, we'll have other events planned in the coming months that ya'll can be late for.

>>>Here's some more info

Since LSU built that sidewalk along Nicholson Dr., there are a lot a rocks that were turned up. We picked up alot of them but probably not all so we highly recommend NO SLIDING INTO BASE. We don't want nobody missing work. No injuries allowed. We want everyback for our next event.

Due to the same sidewalk, we have only 4 fields instead of 5 like last year. This means that only 8 teams play at a time. So there will be breaks between your games and we suggest this is when you eat, cool off, reapply sunscreen, try to squeeze into the kiddie pool with P.F.Chang's. (Hopefully we can squeeze in a 5th but we'll see).

OOO! If anybody has Dominos, cards bring 'em! You can have side challenges.

We're not your mothers, but if you're drinking, be responsible with it. Plan for rides if it comes to that. Call a taxi, it's what they do.

Don't forget the Kickball parties, 3 total.>>>Kickball party 1 after Day 1 at Walk-on's. Come do some retro karaoke.>>> Kickball party 2--The Kickballers Old Skool Retro at the Varsity. Motown + old skool + 80's + kickballers. Feel the Fro.>>> Kickball party 3 after Day 2 and the Saints 1st preseason game. This will be the Awards Party! We're going to start that one probably around the 4th quarter.

July 20th, 2007

>>>Some more notes

Make sure you review the playing rules and details as players and captains.

If you are a captain, try to have your sign-up sheet and waiver filled out if not before then at registration so we can get the non-fun paperwork out the way and kick some balls.

Make sure your team has a minimun of 8 players with at least 3 being girls. We don't want any teams teeming with testosterone, remember it's only kickball.

Registration starts at 11am on Sunday, July 29th and 1st round games start at noonish.

Our friend Ryan will be out on the fields again this year taking pictures so you can have hard evidence to blackmail your co-workers in to doing things.

Also, DJ OTTO will be out there creating a soundtrack for the tournament. He said for the teams to bring a team song for him to play to get your blood pumping.

If you want to make a sign to post at the field you're playing at that would rock and it would let people know who they're laughing at.

And since we are about a week away from Day 1, you better finish up your team uniforms so you can have a chance to win the coveted " Best Uniform" award...and for the Hooters teams, no your work uniforms don't count but recommended.

July 16th, 2007

>>>We're now within two weeks of the Kickball tournament.

Here are some reminders: >>>A) Packets are preferably due before Sunday, July 29th to make registration go faster. Email us when its ready for us to pick up so we can lock your spot in the bracket. >>>B) Bring your ID. Mockler and Budweiser will be arranging some drink specials just for the kickballers and we need to know who can and can't. >>>C) Wear sunscreen. >>>D) If you plan on drinking (...stop laughing) then make sure you eat something sometime throughout the day and stay hydrated. Contrary to popular belief, beer is not a thrist quencher. >>>E) On the same note, plan ahead to have designated drivers if needed. I'm looking at you, P.F. Chang's. >>>F) Keep in mind, if you decide to bring some drinks on your own, outside of Walk-on's, it is illegal to have alcohol on public land (the field is LSU property). So do so at your own risk. >>>G) And finally, have fun. Remember it's only kickball. Maybe we won't have to award a "I take kickball way too seriously" award this year, but not likely. I'm looking at you Varsity.

>>>Good News! Our friends at RSAK (Red Stick Area Kickball) will be back to help referee the games and recruit some of the star players to join Baton Rouge's premiere kickball league. Check them out at www.brkickball.com or at myspace. These guys were a great help last year and we're very glad to have RSAK represented again this year.

>>>Any manager type persons who may be reading this or participating in the tournament, we are looking for any prize donations (preferably giftcards) for various awards. So if you want to offer something let us know and we'll come by and pick it up. Thanks in advance for any prizes given.

July 11th, 2007

We've already got teams forming at Chimes, Varsity, Tsumani, Budweiser, Mockler, Parrains, Hooters (Siegen), Texas Roadhouse, Outback (Gonzales), DiGiulio Bros, Serrano's, Avoyelles, Sullivan's and we've invited a rogue team this year, Chimes Street (Tiger District, Utopia, Inga's, the Bike Shop, and our friends at Storyville).

Try to have your teams ready to go before Day 1(July 29th). This will save alot of time at registration, but we will be accepting teams the day of (if spots are still available). So download your registration needs here

>>>Starting this Friday, July 13th, The Art Melt 2007 in downtown Baton Rouge. Visual arts, performing arts, food, and music. The Art Melt is a quickly growing event that has been key in helping turn downtown Baton Rouge into a true entertainment district. So go support it. Check it the website here.

>>>Don't forget! July 21st,

July 7th, 2007 (The decade's luckiest day)

>>>It's still 3 weeks until MonkeyBr.com Service Industry Kickball but we've already got about 10 to 12 teams building their rosters. So ya'll better hurry and get on the ball (pun intended). Remember the first 32 teams to turn in their packets fill up the bracket. So email us if you're working on your bar/restaurant's roster, we want to know how else is out there. You can download and print the forms you need by clicking on the kickball and monkey logo below. Time is a-ticking.

July 2, 2007

>>>They say if you give a thousand monkeys, a thousand typewriters and a thousand years to type, they will produce the works of Shakespeare. I don't know about that, but what you probably get is what we're going to do with trivia. Funner Questions, Better scoring, sights and sounds (Ok, maybe not the sights and sounds yet but monkeys can dream too). Monkey Trivia at Avoyelles is now scheduled for July, 10th @ 9pm. (No, it's not trivia about monkeys, it's trivia by Monkeys)

>>>Kickball 2007 is a go! This July 29th MonkeyBR.com presents its 3rd Service Industry Kickball Tournament. Restaurant vs bar vs restaurant dueling against each other in the ultimate sport, well at least in third grade it was. Who's going to kick a homerun? Who's going to make that catch? Who's going to strike out (yes, it happens)? Will P.F Changs spend more time in the kiddie pool than playing kickball? What crazy cheer will Chili's have this year? Will the Varsity team their own security to stay out of trouble? Will Tsunami once again show their dominance in the game that is kickball? All questions answered on July 29th out at Walk-on's. Send us an e-mail to let us know that your bar or restaurant that you work at has a team. It's first come, first serve. For more details, click here.

June 27, 2007

>>>It's on the calender. June 28th at the Varsity. We take control of Thursday night 80's retro and put Madden 2007 on X360 on the big screen. It's free to play, but only a limited number can compete. So send us an e-mail at info@monkeybr.com if you wanna play. Our friends at Storyville will also be on hand to show you that you too can "Wear Your Story"

>>>Summertime is upon us and that means hot days, cold drinks and monkeys. This also means tubing time is here. There's not many places in the world where a group of good friends can float down a river, share some beers and pee on themselves while in the back of their minds they just hope not to get eaten by an alligator. Good times. Check out the link below for our friends at Tiki Tubing.
